Trois-Rivieres to Campbellton

In retracing my cycling route from the 2013 Tour du Canada, today we continued our drive through Quebec and into northern New Brunswick. If you wish to read my original posts from 2013 covering this part of the ride, the links are as follows:

The main change I made to today’s route was to circumnavigate Quebec City. In 2023, we had a day off in the city, staying in the dorm at Laval University. When we left Quebec City, we took the ferry Levis. Our revised route today took us from Trois Rivieres, via hwy 40, over the Pierre Laporte Bridge and onto the Hwy 132 where we soon rejoined the TDC 2013 route at Levis. From there, the route to Campbellton, NB was fairly true to the 2013 path.

In the town of Montmagny, a bridge we were driving over had some beautiful flower boxes on the railing. I stopped to take some photos of the bridge and surrounding area.

In Kamarouska, a very striking looking building turned out to be the art center. I stopped to photograph it and a nearby street.

Rimourski is home to a maritime museum which features the 90 foot submarine, the Onandanga. It served from 1997 to 2000. It can now be toured, however, time did not allow for that. Next to it is a 33 metre tall lighthouse. I do remember stopping at this museum in 2013. I recall that it had been raining, and as we were leaving and I accidentally dropped my phone in a puddle. While it did sustain some damage, fortunately, it did continue to work for the rest of the trip. No such calamity occurred this time around.

As we continued towards the New Brunswick border, we followed the Matapedia River, which apparently is very popular with fly fishermen. Along the way, we came across a covered bridge. I admit, I’m a sucker for a covered bridge. In 2013, I photographed the same bridge. Needless to say, I stopped again. As can be seen from the 2013 photo, they have spruced up the bridge a bit in the past 13 years.

A little while later, we crossed the Restigouche River and entered New Brunswick, and from there it was a short drive into Campbellton and our hotel for the night.
