The forests and lakes in the area of Pincher Creek and Waterton Lakes National Park are great areas for bird watching. The birds in the gallery below were all photographed within about a 2-hour period one morning. Clicking on a thumbnail will open a larger version of the image with the identity of the bird in the caption.
On the road into Waterton Lakes National Park is a bison compound. The two images below show a couple of residents from the compound. In the second image, you can see a Brown-headed Cowbird flying along next to the bison. They are often found together as cowbirds feed on the insects the bison stir up when they are grazing.
The Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep pictured below are still shedding their winter coat.
There are a lot of Mule Deer living in the park. One such resident is featured below.
One can’t help but smile when watching foxes romping about.
Bears are a relatively common site in Waterton Lakes National Park. In the Spring you often see mama bears with their cubs. I’ll close out this post with one of the cutest cubs I saw on this spring’s trip.
