In May, I returned to Pincher Creek in Southern Alberta for a photography conference. This gave me an opportunity to revisit some of the spots I went to last year and to explore some new locations.

As always, click on any image to open a full-sized view.

On the drive down, I noticed this old building just off the highway.

About a 15 minute drive from Pincher Creek is Lundbreck Falls. I visited at both evening and early morning. Below are several views of the falls.

Frequently, when I photograph waterfalls, I like to isolate and capture small sections of the falls. I often find the patterns of the water flow as interesting, or sometimes more interesting, than the falls as a whole.

Just upstream from the waterfalls, visible in the first three images above, is a picturesque train trestle.

Northeast of Pincher Creek, atop a hill, is St. Henry’s Historic Catholic Church. I photographed the church near sundown. The church dates back to 1908 and appears to have been well-maintained although no longer is in active use.

A short 10 minutes from Pincher Creek is Heritage Acres Farm Museum. This collection of old farm buildings and equipment gives a great view into the history of farming in Alberta. The museum is surrounded by wind turbines which provide an interesting contrast between modern technology and older mechanical farm implements.

During my travels around the area, I also had the opportunity to capture images of both flora and fauna.

In my next post, I will feature some images of Waterton Lakes National Park.

  1. Beautiful photos, as always, love the church, so peaceful and calm compared to the rugged mountains and brewing storm!!

    1. Thanks MaryAnn. I liked how the bright white church contrasted against the darkening sky.
