For our final few days on the Isle of Lewis & Harris, we stayed in The Harris Hotel in Tarbert. This beautiful old country inn offers comfortable rooms, a very fine dining room, and a great little pub that serves cold beer and great pizzas. What more could you want!

On one of our remaining days we took a little drive to Scalpay for lunch. Heading through Tarbert, we continued east along the bay that the ferry from the Isle of Skye comes in. Eventually we came to a bridge that took us over to the island of Scalpay. It was a beautiful drive and we enjoyed a great lunch at the North Harbor Bistro.

On another day we “circumnavigated” South Harris. We started off driving down the west coast and returned along the east side of this part of the island. The drive to Leverburgh is on a nice two-lane road. The return route was a single lane road but was quite a nice drive.

I’ll wrap up this series with a few random photos from our last few days on Lewis and Harris.

Our trip to the Isle of Lewis & Harris ended with a bit of a nail-biter. Storm Amy, with winds up to 90 mph, was hitting the British Isles on the day we were to depart. Many flights were being cancelled. Although our flight to Edinburgh was about half an hour late, it did depart. As someone told us, windy weather is just the norm for pilots flying to Stornoway!

Scotland is truly a beautiful country. While I have loved every place we have visited, I have to say that the Isle of Lewis and Harris holds a special place in my heart. There is just something magical about this island. I will close with one of my favorite photos from the island, in fact, from the trip as a whole.
