For the third year in a row, I attended the Lightchasers Nature Photography Conference in Pincher Creek, Alberta. Aside from seeing great presentations from amazing photographers, it was a great opportunity to continue exploring and photographing this beautiful part of Alberta.
This part of Alberta is dubbed “where prairie meets mountains” and there are definitely some beautiful mountain scenes. Here are a few:

The following image is a photograph. It’s actually a reflection turned upside down which gives it an almost impressionistic appearance.

I kind of like the following photo – it resembles a charcoal drawing.

There were some wildflowers blooming although it didn’t seem like as many as in other years. I suspect that is just a matter of timing.

This year I had a little better luck in photographing some wildlife, primarily birds. For the most part, I am more of an opportunistic wildlife photographer. If I come across some wildlife, and I have my camera and long lens handy, I may capture some images. However, generally speaking, I don’t go out in search of wildlife. On this trip though, I did deliberately go in search of some bird photos one morning and it did pay off.

Back in my opportunistic mode, I saw this Moose cow and calf as I was driving along. I did manage to stop and capture them before they ran off.

One thing I love doing around waterfalls or rocky streams is capture small scene images that give a sense of flow or energy. Here are a number of the images that I captured on a few of my outings.

Some water images are more abstract with interesting colors and patterns.

Next up, Waterton revisited.
