This year I decided to start the New Year off just a little differently. Arising just after 4:00 am, I was going to watch the first sunrise of the year with my old friend, Joshua Tree National Park. Followers of my blog will know that JTNP is one of my special places. I have been there enough times that driving into the park, with it’s Joshua Trees and boulders, is truly like going to visit an old friend.

It wasn’t one of the more spectacular sunrises I’ve seen there, but about a half hour before the sun came up, there was a nice golden glow on the eastern horizon.

As the sun started to peak above the horizon, I captured a couple of images of boulders starting to feel its warm glow.

As the sun continued to rise, it basked the landscape in a beautiful warm glow which helped to take the chill off of the early morning.

Here’s a couple of my black and white images from that morning.

In the final image below, I like how the Joshua Tree branches are just starting to feel the golden light.

By mid-morning, with holiday visitors pouring into the park, it was time to bid my friend a fond farewell. It was a beautiful way to start 2025! Auld lang syne my friend!
